First of all, I want to apologize for the severe lack of posting this month. Not only was I back in school for my Masters but we are also moving to a new condo at the end of this month. It’s really hectic between working, going to school and managing Geek Grubs but I wanted to have at least one thing made for Halloween.
For this Halloween, I decided to go with one of the classic kid’s Halloween shows – Charlie Brown and The Great Pumpkin. The recipe is very easy – NO COOKING INVOLVED! You will need a microwave though but only for about a minute or two. Also, this pie is not pumpkin flavored but chocolate, which will make it great for kids! No tricks here, only an awesome treat for the whole family.
- 1 1/2 milk chocolate chips
- 1 tub Cool Whip
- 1 Oreo Pie crust
- Pumpkin candy – I use Brach’s Mellowcreme Pumpkins
- Peeps Ghost
- Crushed oreos for the ground
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for about 1 minute. If it hasn’t fully melted, do 20 second increments after the first minute.
Fold the cool whip with the melted chocolate.
Once incorporated, place a dollop of the mixture in a bowl and microwave for about 10 seconds. Mix it with the rest of the mixture. This is to make it a bit thinner without deflating the whole thing.
This is how it should look after mixing.
Place the mixture on the oreo crust.
Grab about 5-8 oreos and separate the filling from the cookie.
Place the cookies in a ziploc back and crush it using a rolling pin or similar.
Sprinkle the crushed cookies on top of the pie and decorate using the pumpkin candy and ghosts. To add the picket sign, download the image here. Print it not scaled and tape it to a toothpick.
Here is the end result. I hope you enjoyed this very easy recipe!
Happy Halloween everyone!
